Octagon Garden was presented in 2021 by LNDMRK at Holt Renfrew Ogilvy’s 5fth floor gallery. The original intention was to create an installation during the holiday season that was inclusive of general holiday spirit but not specific in any way.

The interactive installation is designed around the octagon, a symbol for transformation and renewal. The shape is seen repeated on the floor in concentric octagons around an octagonal prism in wood, drawing the viewer closer to engage. The design on the exterior of the structure is intended to look like false doorways, and oriented to draw movement toward the real openings. The interior has alcoves with mysterious plants, false doorways with staircases and mirrors designed to entice reflection on alternative routes and on oneself.

The end of the calendar year is a time to reflect on what has passed and to set intentions for the new year. By moving toward the installation and walking through the structure, a person symbolically passes from one state to the next. Though it may not feel different, like the transition into a new year, it is important to cultivate an awareness and energy towards the future.
